Do you remember the movie The Accountant with Ben Affleck? Released in 2016, this thriller was a hit at the box office with over 155 million dollars in revenue on a budget of 44 million. It even got a sequel recently, but… some fans were disappointed. Why? Because Dana Cummings, the character played by Anna Kendrick, was absent!
Well, good news: it might just be a goodbye ✨.
Why is Anna Kendrick not in The Accountant 2?
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, director Gavin O’Connor explained that her absence was actually planned from the start. With screenwriter Bill Dubuque, they wanted to give the film a different dynamic:
“We didn’t want a love story for this sequel. We wanted a story about brothers, a bit in the spirit of 48 Hrs. or Midnight Run.”
So no Dana in this second installment… but this isn’t the end for her character!
Towards a comeback in The Accountant 3?
According to O’Connor, the third film was conceived as the one where Christian Wolff (Ben Affleck) could finally experience a real love story and connection. And guess what? The director revealed that he has already had preliminary discussions with Anna Kendrick, and she would be “100% on board” to reprise her role.
Even Ben Affleck, who was present during the interview, humorously remarked: “We hope she still loves us.”
And what about Anna Kendrick’s career?
Even though she wasn’t in The Accountant 2, the star of Pitch Perfect is keeping busy. She recently shone in the crime thriller Woman of the Hour, available on Netflix, which she also directed (yes, yes, director in addition to being an actress!). She even describes it as “the most personal work” of her career.
Next up? She will reunite with Blake Lively in Another Simple Favor, a sequel to the cult film released in 2018.
